Perform It! Young People’s Stage Company presents William Shakespeare’s Love’s Labour’s Lost May 8, 9, 10, and 11, 2014 at the Village Players Theater in Wolfeboro.
The King of Navarre and his three lords agree to have no contact with women for three years while they devote themselves to study. Lord Berowne doesn’t think much of this plan, but signs the oath anyway. Since the entire court must obey these rules, the pompous Spaniard Don Armado is shocked to see Costard flirting with the country girl, Jaquenetta, and reports his offense to the King. When the couple is brought before Don Armado, he himself is quite taken with the girl, sighing and moaning about love to his servants, Moth and Owl. The next day, the Princess of France and her three lovely ladies arrive on official business, but are not allowed in the palace and must stay in a tent on the grounds. Once the men see the fair women, they, of course, fall in love, but will not admit to breaking the oath. Love letters are written and mis-delivered and pretty soon confusion and silliness reign.
