Honoring of the Elders Traditional Pow Wow

10:00 am - 5:00 pm
Saturday, May 17th and Sunday, May 18th
Rain or Shine
Native American flute playing, dancing, drumming, singing, crafts, and vendors.
Bring a folding chair and/or a blanket and enjoy the day! Guest drums are always welcome!
This is a gathering of North American First Nations people who join in dancing, singing and drumming and other activities, and they are representing various tribes and styles. The Pow Wow is a time of preserving a rich heritage and keeping the traditional ways alive. It is for celebrating, sustaining and bridging the traditions of the Native people. The Pow Wow is a time to laugh and have fun, a time to gather with old friends and to make new friends. Pow Wow activities are social and recreational, but in many ways they hold a deeper spiritual and religious significance.
Dancing starts at noon with three Honor songs. The First Grand Entry is where the dancers enter the sacred (dance) circle to open the sacred circle with their positive energy. Then the Flag Song, similar to the National Anthem, is a way of honoring First Nations, State, and American flags. The third is the Veterans song to Honor all Veterans including our public guests. After the three opening songs most of the songs will be inter-tribal where all, including our public guests, are welcome to join in.
On Saturday and Sunday the vendors will be open by 10:00am and will close at 5:00pm. Throughout the day vendors will be preforming demonstrations and there will be craft activities in the children's tent. The public is encouraged to join in on both Saturday and Sunday. This is a great educational experience for all, young and old!
