Mount Washington Cog Railway Natural History Tour
Monday, August 25, 1:30 pm train
Bright sun, high winds, blowing ice and snow, thin soils, and rough terrain are some of the challenges facing not only humans on the mountain but plants and animals as well. Join Appalachian Mountain Club Senior Interpretive Naturalist Nancy Ritger on a natural history tour of Mount Washington via the historic Cog Railway. Learn how the famous Mt Washington weather plays an important role in what plants and animals can call the mountain home.
As we ascend the mountain, ecological zones are pointed out featuring species that have adapted to the conditions at different elevations. Upon reaching the summit we will spend time exploring the tundra environment at the top of the mountain.
1:30 pm train. Round trip tour is approximately 3 hours.
