2014 Summer Boat Building Classes
New Hampshire Boat Museum’s Youth Boat Building Class was featured on NHPR! Listen to the article here.
Have you ever dreamed of building your own boat, but did not know how? The New Hampshire Boat Museum has just the thing for you! WE are offering two sessions of boat building:
The first session is for children ages 12 and up. Both boys and girls are encouraged to apply. Children will be taught the safe use of hand and a limited number of small power tools. Students can choose from the one-person canoe, the one-person kayak, and the Bevin’s Skiff. At the end of each 10-day session, a special launching on Lake Wentworth will be held to celebrate the completion of the craft.
The second will be for adults and families. In this session, adults can work individually or as a team with family and/or children. Adults can choose between making the one-person canoe, a one-person kayak, a Paddleboard, a Bevin’s Skiff (an 11’6″ skiff that will accommodate several adults and can be adapted to handle a small outboard motor), and new this year, an Opti Sailboat. We will supply all the tools, supplies and expertise to help you build your boat. Depending on the type of boat you select to build, you may be finished with your project prior to the end of the course. The extra time is allocated for those building the Opti Sailboat or the Paddleboard.
